PTE Reorder Paragraphs – In re-order paragraphs, you are required to arrange to restore the original order of the text. The sentences are placed in random order. Put them in such a way that they make sense.

This item type assesses reading skills. It requires test takers to be familiar with the organization and cohesion of academic texts and arrange text in a single correct order.

PTE Reading – Reorder Paragraphs

1. Re-order / Rearrange the sentence in such a way that makes sense.

[A]. Its business decisions are made on the timely and accurate flow of information.

[B]. It has 1700 employees in 13 branches and representative offices across the Asia-Pacific region.

[C]. For employees to maintain a competitive edge in a fast-moving field, they must have quick access to JP Morgan’s proprietary trade related data.

[D]. JP Morgan’s is one of the largest banking institutions in the US and a premiere international trading firm.

SHOW ANSWER & EXPLANATION

DBAC. Point D introduces the paragraph followed by Point B which tells about the composition of the institution. Point A comes next as talks about its working, which is the somewhat the extension of Point B. Point C becomes the closing sentence as it talks about how work is done. 

2. Re-order / Rearrange the sentence in such a way that makes sense.

[A]. Over the years, I have had the opportunities to observe and understand the thought processes behind the ads that have been flooding both the print and the TV media.

[B]. Although there is a huge shift in the quality of ads that we come across on a daily basis– thanks essentially to improvement in technology–I somehow can’t help but feel that the quality of communication of the message has become diluted.

[C]. Proportionally, the number of ads that lack in quality, has gone up exponentially as well!!

[D]. There is an increasing attempt by most companies to be seen as cool and funky.

[E]. Another reason could be the burgeoning number of companies, which means an exponential increase in the number of ads that are being made.

ABDEC. The paragraph will start with ‘A’ following ‘Time Sequence Approach’.

[A]. For days before it starts on a journey, a camel does nothing but eat and drink.

[B]. So the camel’s hump is a storage place for fat, which the camel’s body will use up during the journey.

[C]. Where other animals would die for lack of food and water, the camel gets along nicely because it carries its food and water with it.

[D]. The camel is called ‘the ship of the desert’ and there is a good reason for it.

[E]. It eats so much that a hump of fat may be weighing as much as 100 pounds, rises on its back.

DCAEB. The paragraph is about Camel. D introduces the topic & stands alone. C gives the reason why Camel is called ‘Ship of the desert’. A follows C. CAB are logically linked.

[A]. It worried because all other foxes would mock at its lost tall. Hence it planned a trick.

[B]. But its tail was cut down by a trap when it tried to escape from the trap.

[C]. Now I am free and happy without my tail.

[D]. When all foxes ridiculed it and said, “I have cut down the tail myself because it was a great hindrance.

[E]. A greedy fox stealthily entered a garden to eat the grapes.

[D]. Benet developed the first set of such tests in the early 1990s to find out which children in school needed special attention.

  • For questions 3,On what basis ,C came after D,what connector made this happen.I personally felt C should be in the end

  • the correct order for 5 is ECBDA
    E introduces the concept/idea of intelligent and tests, C further elaborates on intelligent and tests, and B follows C
    D talks about one such test and A follows/supports it.

    Can you look at my answer..i think it’s considerable. how come the letter A is after D?letter D talks about which children needed special attention so my answer is C after D. how ever its a little bit confusing,and you didn’t explain why A is after D right. There must be a 1 or 2 correct answers here.

  • The technique to answer these questions is firstly, look for Independent sentence then look for connectors. Once, you start connecting one connector with other it be automatically solved.

  • I want to know one thing. If for example in re order paragraph (Question No. 3) the correct answer in DCAEB and i have done DAEBC then how many marks would i be given. As i have combined the pargraph D & AEB correctly while C was placed wrong. Would i be given credit for first correct placement D or D plus placement of 3 adjacent paragraphs AEB as well.

    Appreciate if anyone could answer please.
